ISRC is an international standard recording code for sound & music video recordings. ISRC allows these sound & music video recordings to be uniquely identified forever. The ISRC allows for easy management of rights when recordings are used across varying formats and distribution channels.

ISRC is comprises of 12 alphanumeric characters, preceded with the letters — ‘ISRC’.

ISRCs can be assigned by anyone with a registrant code. One need no be a member of the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry or the National Music Industry trade association in order to apply for a registrant code.

The ISRCs must not be changed once assigned. They remain the same for lifetime. Should the rights of a recording be sold to someone, the new owner must not change the ISRC.
